Audiology testing and screening requires to be carried
out in rooms which meet the standards set out in HTM 2045 1996 "Acoustics
- Audiology" and HBN 12 Supplement 3 1994 "ENT and Audiology
Clinics: Hearing Aid Centres". The key elements of these documents
are that the ambient noise within the test room should not exceed
NR25 and that the reverberation time should not be more than 0.25
seconds.
The cladding of an appropriately designed
and constructed room with high performance sound absorbing and sound insulating
Coustone panels enables these targets to be met at a lower cost than that
for the purchase of a high specification proprietary audiology booth/room.
This means that NHS Trusts can create rooms suitable for diagnostic testing
at local clinics and health centres rather than having all patients attend
a single central facility which may result in a considerable distance
to be traveled. Any resultant stress, which may be associated with this,
can lead to erroneous test results, particularly in the case of paediatric
testing.
